Market Stats

In the Cherokee County GA real estate market – which includes the cities of Acworth (zip code 30102), Ball Ground, Canton, Holly Springs, and Woodstock --  there were a total of 223 sales in November 2009 (down from 203 in the previous month). The average selling price for that period was 198,785 and the median selling price was $180,500. The average Days on Market for homes sold during the month was 115. 453 new listings in the Cherokee County GA real estate market were posted on the FMLS.

In November 2008, there were a total of 123 sales in the Cherokee County GA real estate market with an average selling price of $203,866 and a median selling price of $180,500.

CHEROKEE COUNTY

Cherokee County was formed in 1830 from lands previously held by the Cherokee Indians. Its 6,900 square miles were subsequently divided into 24 other counties.  Cherokee County is now considered part of Metro Atlanta and is bisected by an Interstate Highway (I-575). The southern half of the county is more densely populated, although the northern half as experienced much development during the last 10 years. The two major cities in Cherokee County are Woodstock (the county seat) and Woodstock, each of which have populations in excess of 20,000.  As of 2000, the population was 141,903. The 2007 Census Estimate placed the population at 204,363.  The median age in 2007 was 34 years and the estimated median household income was $60,896.

RECREATION

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks authority operates 21 park facilities and is in the process of buying properties for additional parks to accommodate its growing population. The CRPA also sponsors a wide range of recreational activities for residents of all ages, including athletics (youth and adult), children’s camps, fitness programs, cultural arts for children (including drawing, music and arts), gymnastics, and programs for senior citizens. A number of private organizations offer recreational programs, including the YMCA Community Center in Canton, the Cherokee County Arts Center in Canton, and the Towne Lakes Arts Center in the Woodstock area.
