Woodstock GA General Information

The City
First settled around 1825, Woodstock was not chartered as a city until 1897. It’s earliest settlers were farmers. During the last 10 years, city more than doubled in population and area, as the metro Atlanta area expanded its residential base. In 2006 the population was estimated to be 21,482. The median age in 2007 was 32.8 years and the estimated median household income was $58,400. I recall from my first drive through Woodstock 40 years ago, downtown consisted of the L&N railroad station, the 1904 House restaurant and Dean’s General Store. The station has been converted to a restaurant and the site of Dean’s store is now the Woodstock visitor’s center. Downtown Woodstock is now lined with specialty stores and tearooms and special events facilities. Recreation
The City of Woodstock maintains two parks: Woodstock City Park is at the heart of downtown with benching, the Woodstock Centennial Clock and Time Capsule, a Gazebo and a fountain. Dupree Park is located on Neese Road at the eastern city boundary and provides two play areas for small children, softball fields, lighted tennis courts, a fishing pond and picnic area. Park and recreation facilities serving the unincorporated communities surrounding the city area are operated by Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Commission. |
